Collection

The Instituto PIPA collection is focused on the works of artists participating in the PIPA Prize. Since 2010, all winning artists in each Prize category have donated a work to the Institute.

At the end of 2016, we started the acquisition and commissioning process through the Institute. The umbrella concept “Displacement / Displacement” serves as a guideline for the collection. “Displacement” actually has many definitions. It can mean the situation where people or objects move from one place to another. It can be spontaneous or forced. There is a sense of urgency and a need for invention associated with displacements – between countries, bodies, sexuality, identity, supports and artistic languages.

Our intention, whenever possible, is to try to acquire a set of works that give a minimal account of the artists’ work process and the internal coherence of their research and questions. Also, try to follow the development of your trajectory over time. The diversity of Brazilian production is something to be encouraged in these acquisitions, with their heterogeneous historical, political and social narratives. Diversity is the basis of a cultural ecosystem that is vital and productive.

We believe in the importance of encouraging the development of artistic practices, supporting the production of new works and projects, with the mission of contributing to the international recognition and dissemination of Brazilian contemporary art. The collection is available for loan, exhibitions have been organized and we are open to developing new projects and partnerships.
